What this site is

DealBytes tracks the price of shuckable external hard drives — the kind hobbyists open up to extract the bare WD or Seagate inside for use in NAS, DAS, and home server builds. Each product/retailer combination is checked once per day so you can see at a glance which model has the best dollars-per-terabyte right now.

Today the catalog focuses on WD Easystore / Elements / My Book, Seagate Expansion / Backup Plus / OneTouch, and Toshiba Canvio in 12–24 TB capacities. Other categories (GPUs, monitors, storage adjacents) may follow once the tracker is solid.

Methodology

Once a day, an automated browser loads each retailer's product page for each tracked SKU. It reads the price visible on that page — the same number a person sees when they visit the URL — and records it together with a timestamp.

Every cell on the homepage shows that timestamp. If a price hasn't refreshed within 24 hours we dim the cell rather than pretending the number is current. The "Check →" button always links to the retailer's live page so you can confirm before buying.
