The sweet spot is DDR5-6000 CL30. On AMD AM5 the memory controller runs in sync 1:1 with the memory (UCLK:MCLK) up to 6000 MT/s, so 6000 CL30 gives the best real-world latency; going faster usually forces a 1:2 ratio that costs more than it gains. Recent Intel chips tolerate higher speeds, but 6000-6400 CL30-32 remains the value pick. Whatever you buy, enable EXPO/XMP in the BIOS or it runs slow.

What is the best DDR5 speed and timing in 2026?

How much DDR5 do I need for gaming vs AI?

32GB is plenty for gaming. For local AI, 64GB is the recommended floor because it lets you offload part of a large model from the GPU to system RAM, and 128GB is the future-proof choice. Faster RAM raises throughput for the layers that spill to system memory; more capacity lets you fit larger models, though offloading to system RAM is far slower than VRAM, so it is a fallback rather than a speed-up.
